Yes, it's never as easy as it sounds, the day-trading lark. I've played the game many times and enjoyed it but the hard part is knowing when to sell, so you don't get left high and dry. That character today was hoping for 43c and could have easily got 40.5c, if not 41c. So s/he did secure about $500 but passed up an additional $500-750 by holding a little too long. I was always happy with the quick in and out myself, for safety sake, but sometimes it cost me thousands. As you say, there'll likely be a bigger price spike if some top notch assays get announced soon.
