Agree.
People forget that the Exmouth discovery in 1954 was NOT commercial.
But it showed there was a hydrocarbon system, underground in that region and inspired other searches.
Subsequent searches found Commercial oil at nearby Barrow Island.
To this day, they are still pumping oil and gas from that region.
