Thief steals armoury from Tasmanian home

The theft of nearly 100 firearms from a house in northern Tasmania has alarmed critics of Australia's gun laws.

The stolen weapons include 35 revolvers and 24 semi-automatic pistols.

Police say all of the firearms were registered and stored in accordance with current legislation.

The chairman of the National Coalition for Gun Control, Roland Browne, fears the hand guns will end up for sale on the blackmarket in Tasmania or interstate:

"There's over 4,000 firearms stolen annually in Australia and the result of all of this - and the very recent theft - can only lead to one conclusion, and that is that we have to have a wholesale review of the regulations surrounding the storage of firearms."
