Interesting suggestion. It’s certainly possible.
The mRNA is translated into protein. Some of this could be enclosed in exosomes for export from the cells. Exosomes are used to send “signals” to distant cells…a form of communication if you will.
I know one of the reasons the eye was chosen as an initial target was that it is somewhat “segregated” from other tissues AND that there are two; so one can be a “pseudo control”. The reason it’s a pseudo control is that there is still some connection between the eyes: the bloodstream.
