(Former Qld Premier) Newman said Queensland could separate nuclear energy with the exploration and mining production of uranium for exports, as South Australia and the Northern Territory have done.
“Just because you’re mining doesn’t mean you have a domestic nuclear electricity generation sector – one doesn’t mean the other,” he said.
“We can build depth in the Queensland economy and not have to rely as much on coal … we can get the benefits and god knows the state budget needs more revenue sources, given the ongoing trajectory of the finances in Queensland.”
