Seems friday there wasn't a lot of new shorts being added https://www.asx.com.au/data/shortsell.txt, 0.02. However it was green in the morning at $0.32 and suddenly dropped to $0.3 when ASX went to the moon, it was probably institutional longs dumping stock in knee jerk reaction. One would not expect shorters to pile in on CEO departure given how low the share price is already, hopefully appen can bounce from here. My point is, whenever appen drops hard on very high volumes, it's likely to be insider trading and retail traders should not buy it, traders here have a tendency to buy appen on big red days.
