Also showing my age now with a very brief history...

Cloud computing is the natural progression from Mainframe computing.
When local networking of PC's was developed PC's became the smart devices at the Mainframe's "Edge" (remote sites, offices etc).
PC's got faster, bigger, better, were called servers and all sorts of shite happened as they grew into just about everywhere.
Ditto with networking.
Side note i: made a happy healthy living out of that lot.

Cloud came along (someone else's PC/Servers/Storage/Network all grouped together) and sort of represents a flexible mainframe.
Edge computing came along and sort of replicated those smart devices (PC's) at the Mainframes edge.
Side note ii: do people realise Mainframes still run a shed load of Banking, Airline, Government core systems?

Sure this is a very simplistic version of computing history but the thing about 4DS tech is that it can ultimately provide benefit at each and every step, with cost, speed, reliability and energy efficiency.
Centralised computing benefit? Tick.
Cloud computing benefit? Tick.
Distributed computing benefit? Tick.
Edge computing benefit? Tick.
Supercomputing, Tablet, Phone, Car, etc. Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.....
