Copper is no longer generally used except in underground cables. All of your overhead cables from distribution and transmission ccts use aluminium cables as the cost less and have very low resistance per km and better heat dispersion than copper overhead.
The other issue is that copper is quite expensive and very desirable commodity to steal.
I have worked on projects where we have had kilometres of underground copper cable go walkabout.
No need for platform shoes, but being aware of the risks and follow procedures.
I work quite extensively in the 220kV Substations and have in the past been an operator within substations.
