Kambalda entrepreneur is young winner
The Junk brothers are well known in the Goldfields Esperance region for reinvigorating Kambalda and its nickel mines when they started Donegal Resources. Leigh Junk was last night named as one of WA's most successful young business leaders in the 40 Under 40 awards. His brother Ian won the award in 2005, so now both brothers have achieved the leadership award. In 2000 the Junk brothers saw an opportunity to tender on the impending sale of the Miitel nickel mine. They won the tender and at the age of 28, Leigh and his brother started Donegal Resources and the Miitel JV. Six years later, Leigh is a director of the mining company, which is now owned by Brilliant Mining in Canada. Leigh is also involved in operating the Lanfranchi nickel mine with JV partner Sally Malay.
