This is a modest net positive. Nobody likes assets in care and maintenance, but keeping Metalloys would preserve optionality in future years.
Manganese Sulphate for batteries will command higher prices than ferromanganese and producers will trend that way, starving persistent, consistent demand from steelmakers who will have to compete for supply.
I see Metalloys reopening in 2-3 years after demand pressure for ferromanganese obliges repricing.
South African energy costs and pollluting coal generation may ruin this opportunity.
