I can relate. At one point my family had millions just in Afterpay and it had run really hard and at $50 it seemed crazy, at $100 we felt elated, at $160 we were thinking about Lamborghinis, at $100 again we were very depressed, and finally, we sold into the takeover offer at $125-135. Had we sold when executives were bailing out heavily, we would have sold first at $12 and then all the way up.
The key thing that let us hold huge positions and exit with a fortune was being free carry based on selling at crazy high prices on the way up. We hardly had to sell any shares to be free carry and mentally have peace and quiet because we bought mostly below $10.
So if you divide everything by 10, my story is pretty relatable to anyone who has held WHC from below $1 to $11 and back to $9. Selling 1/10th would probably see most people free carry and still have 9/10th for any future dividends and upside.
I sell when I feel the juice has been squeezed a lot and then see how i feel the next day until I reach the level at which I can hold really well. different for everyone. gltah.
