VA was unavoidable for two reasons, regardless of resource size:

1. The company required additional funding to make the plant operational and then survive until there was sufficient harvest salt available to start production. They couldn't find anybody willing to tip in the money before...
2. ...the ASX started asking questions about what the directors knew, and when, and whether they had breached their duty of disclosure by continuing to publicly announce imminent production.

The directors were in a legal and financial bind they couldn't possibly escape from. I think it's quite likely that the directors will still end up facing legal and financial actions from regulators, investors and lenders.
