What does one do with STO , Santos started as a Oil / Gas company in Australia in 1954.
Yes a very long time ago. Just 9 years after the end of ww2.
Things were different back then , People and their expectations were different.
Some huge and very successful companies were started in that decade.
Many of them are still going now , stronger than ever. Some of them were swallowed up by competitors and some of them had name changes. If you look at many Australian companies you will find their roots all the way back to the 40s and 50s.
My Point is , these companies have endured the best and worst of History , many have prospered and some are now , simply History, but the ones which have survived have not survived because they are complacent , because they are weak , because they are stupid , these companies have more knowledge in their desk draws than any of us here on these forums could ever wish to have , these companies have forgotten more than any of us have ever learned .
I have made a lot of money out of WBC , BHP , ELD , ILU , WPL , NWS , CWN , TAB and so it goes , I have held some stocks for decades , not because the CEOS are seen at the most recently opened coffee shop in Toorak , or Because the CEO visits the most famous Gym in Manly and parades in front of the Mirror , or because the CEO is a well dressed woman whom is photographed with her third husband on the beach in Bondi with her gleaming new Channel 9 teeth .
The list of failed companies is a long one , many have failed in this decade , they were all stock market darlings , you would hear the names of these companies being dropped all over , the most recent one of course is BAL ,it came from no where ,, the management received all sorts of awards from all sorts of people looking for free advertising , and then out of the blue , well you all know what happened next ,
So what do you do with STO ?? , I'm hanging on , I put my trust in a company which has survived through thick and thin over decades , A previous poster on this thread mentioned you do not profit by purchasing stocks when they are market darlings and the local hairdresser is recommending them , you make money by purchasing strong companies at a low price when the rest of the investors hate them , all you need to do then is sit back and wait.
If the company behaves badly dump it , get out , run for your life , but if the company is simply going through a rough patch because ( ie ) the price of oil dropped by 50 per cent , jump on it and hang on for the ride of your life. ( bhp was 15 bucks a few months ago )
There are no short cuts to Wealth creation. Apart from robbing a bank or participating in a lucky LOTTO draw. This planet needs gas and oil producers , end of story.
