"Pipeline capacity

Hi Tremonti . . . it is quite possible to significantly ramp up through put from the current 2.5mt in the slurry pipeline. It was designed and commissioned by the Canadian firm, Bechtel. Back then it only had 3 x 13.5kw motors. They have since been upgraded to 3 x 18kw motors with variable speed. Bechtel's design was based on maximum slope of 16 degree but when installed the maximum slope is just 10 deg.The pipe was made in Japan for a maximum pressure of 2000 psi. The line automatically shuts down when 2000 psi is exceeded. The time when they come close to 2000 psi is during a start up. Variable speed motors provided a means to minimise start up pressure. Many years ago, managing director, Wayne Bould, said the line could do 3mt. When Bechtel designed the system they did not know about rheology. Systems of today are designed based on rheology . . . altering the mix of particle sizes in the slurry dramatically affects output. So I think with the bigger variable speed motors and some work on rheology the output could exceed 3mt. Correct me if I am wrong . . . just going by memory I think the design for SD has a significantly longer pipe of 12 inch diameter . . . a lot of slurry pipelines are not huge in diameter. I think at the moment the slurry pipeline handles all that the concentrator can provide it. I think once block cave is operational they may crank up the output through the pipe.
