Your calcs or Flippa's calcs on economic viability do not matter. What matters is the financial analysis performed by those who seek offtakes and those who may be interested in financing the project. So far, they are saying 'thanks but no thanks'. All laterite projects are in this predicament probably due to the fact that all historic laterite projects promised so much and delivered so little. Or to put it another way, their DFS's weren't very good.
