My thoughts were that his familiarity with aspects of MLC could have just got him over the line. In terms of final and compelling, profit driving synergy if he gets the job finalised MLC chuffing along with IFL without metal shavings in the gear box, we're looking better.

In terms of failures elsewhere = AMP, and questionable real achievements = SunSuper, (as posters have raised), I'd hope the Insignia Board grilled Hartley solidly on where he went wrong, and how he'd have done it differently with hindsight, in order to get a sense of the man's humility, and self awareness in his experiential development.

At IFL we shareholders, and clients don't need someone who hasn't learnt from past mis-judgements, worse still someone who hasn't made any!
