Burning the gas on site and transmitting electricity eliminates the need for pipeline infrastructure and approvals.
Why build a pipeline when you can just sell into the electrical grid?
Is it spin to make up for problems at SE-2 and SE-3? Yes.
Is it a good idea? Also yes.
Plenty of government subsidies are available for generation and transmission infrastructure too I believe.
