Hi Bigal- sorry I wasn't ignoring your post, I saw it only after I posted my research on Seeking Alpha/Select Harvests.
The author of that article might be correct, however I noticed that in an earlier news ABC article back in March that they seem to give similar figures:
...The almond harvest is well underway in South Australia's Riverland, with a total national tonnage of close to 90,000 tonnes predicted for this year...
So, I wonder: is the author of the more recent article (19th of May) relying on out of date information?.
My theory is that the harvest downgrade is related to excessive rain after just after pollination, which adversely impacted the development of some nuts, and this problem may have only become evident during processing: this information may have only become widely known after the May 19 article was published.
It would be nice to get some more information on this. Hopefully the company will provide some more detail soon.
