@kkp 17% just the net shorting. If it is rinse and repeat then buying and selling to themselves will not get captured in net shorting. IMO gross shorting will be a much higher % compared volume traded. Ofcourse there is also a minor % of retail investors selling it because of frustration and fear. These are just my opinion.
