I don't know which market you are looking at but spec stocks by the hundreds see this trading all the time due to HFT... wake up.
and if you are going to talk manipulation the really obvious situation is the pump and dump - where the sp is falsely inflated that I agree is manipulation orchestrated by savvy traders, but the normal small buys/sells by bots is now perfectly normal since the ASX and other exchanges bowed to the wishes of the flash boys.
