It would be in their best interest if the company in question payed BRN or their reputation could be tarnished as what other companies would want to do business with people who don’t pay their bills!
Anyone who works in the building industry knows that there is absolutely nothing you can do to ensure you get paid every time and as you have suggested more often than not the cost of attempting to recover a debt makes it uneconomical. It is disgusting what goes on and at the end of the day if you survive the losses your good name and knowledge of who to deal with is the only practical solution.

In relation to the audit while we have no knowledge of the agreement terms it is most likely that there are provisions covering disputes. Those provisions would normally provide for non litigious solutions in the first instance. Therefore just because the word audit has been used it does not necessarily mean that a big 4 accounting firm has been involved it may well be that it is being conducted in the first instance by a current employee of BRN in an informal setting so that not a great deal of expense is involved to either party at this stage. But who knows???
