    You do realise to produce hydrogen from coal the other gas formed is carbon dioxide don’t you? It is simply moving the pollution source from the vehicle to the hydrogen plant.
    Hydrogen is more likely to be produced from renewables via cracking water molecules- not particularly efficient but possible now with existing technology
    And good luck getting any new coal mine approved!
