I agree that the understanding of the mechanics and benefits of bitcoin is not understood or even on the radar of most people, so this is very niche at the moment.

However one thing to remember that while DCC is bringing in cash from mining at present, this is not their endgame. They have a suite of services they are preparing to release - www.digital.com - which, when available will require mainstream curiosity and take-up from the general public for it to have mainstream traction. By flying the flag too early, before the product is ready is only likely to cause curiosity fatigue.

From my perspective I think the most sensible way forward would be to continue the mining until the online services are ready, THEN begin to generate a groundswell of interest. The rise of bitcoin to become a permanent currency alternative I think is inevitable. and there will be many players trying to get in on it. Those who succeed will those who have the best timing.
