Doing the R&D return takes quite some work, so it's not an overnight type of thing. There is a level of substantiation required as to what expenditure meets the requirements, apportionment of general expenses etc. The accountants will be working through this with PYC prior to lodgement, then the claim will be reviewed upon submission. This is a bit more involved than lodging an annual tax return, which is processed relatively simply.
I would suggest the delay is understandable.
