NLC has been interested in Coldry tech for years. NLC used to just dig up and burn lignite; NMDC used to be just an IO company - both now want to be part of India's steel industry. NMDC should be producing 9MTPA of steel soon. That's about 10% of current production, which is pretty impressive. India plans to increase its steel output to 300 MTPA by 2025! To capture 10% of that, NMDC will need to produce ... 30MTPA. 2025 is about eight years away. NMDC will invest 'Rs 40,000 crore (US$ 5.93 billion) in the next eight years to achieve mining capacity of 75 Million Tonnes Per Annum'. Imo, NMDC plans to invest heavily in what is tried and true. Those plans won't change overnight because of any 'breakthrough' in its R&D interests.

Coldry, NLC and gasification are all linked to India's steel future. But imo, gasification is the one that is well advanced and preferable in terms of maximising more efficient and cleaner and safer and cheaper coal and lignite production.

A small single module Coldry CDP, I contend, has a very good chance of being built and funded by NLC. But I don't believe it will be for energy except in terms of producing downstream and briquetting products. The construction of a Coldry plant depends on the success of an 'analogous' Matmor pilot. If that pilot doesn't pass the tests, then Coldry may not go ahead.

    All imo.
