Firstly we already knew the HIV trial was delayed and were just waiting for confirmation of how far delayed it was. All their trials are delayed. It this one completes this quarter as per this updated guidance then it will be almost a record of sorts.
They have the excuse of the floods for this one but I'm sure thats not the entire story as all the other ones ran sigificantly over also. Irrespective of reasons its the outcomes that matter and another 3 months will be frustrating but the world won't change in that time.
They seem to be firming up their next step plans. The update post exercise of options was a little more airy fairy than this. The plans seem more focused.
As for big pharma, on the HCV front we have seen acquisitions by big pharma often designed to plug holes in their programs. Everybody wants a chunk of that pie and as development and trials of new products continue some will hit stumbling blocks and fall to the wayside. Some will be uncompetative by themselves. As BIT225 is specifically to be used in combo there is good reason to believe it will be an attractive addition to some programs.
On the HIV front, the in-progress trial should give us some indication of what we have here. Encouraging results will help balance the eggs across multiple baskets to mitigate some risk whilst giving us the co-infected wild card which could prove to be the lure that attracts offers.
