Gold will continue to outperform in the long run IMO due to inflation about to run hard through stimulus and the incapacity to raise rates further in the states leading to cost blowouts. An analogy being Hitler's inflation during his money printing era. Few commentaries on the net analyzing Gates and Buffett holdings from official returns and their sell offs. The implication being the stocks are overvalued. Add to that mix the battle in gold going on for regaining status as an international reserve among a basket of currencies as opposed to a few such as the US dollar.
