It means a bigger diameter wellbore in certain sections of the HCS. Translation below....

Basically they were drilling a 6.75" dia hole to TD. So the coarse grains in the HCS were slowly flushed out by the drilling mud thus giving them inconsistency in the wellbore dia termed as an 'overgauge' hole eg 7.5 to 8" or more (so just visualise blending a br'kfast smoothie & then suddenly a crack develops in the plastic bender spewing out the contents).

So when they run the WL tool, most basic of them all is the Caliper log which tells them the diameter of the wellbore from TD upwards as the tool is hauled back to surface.

In this instance, the caliper tool 'prongs' would have been all over the place wherever the sands were dislodged which also makes it difficult for them to take fluid samples & pressure readings from the washed-out section in the well at whatever depth they might b.

So when they run the 5.5" size casing, they'll pump in extra cement to fill any cavities caused by the washout betwn the 6.75" well section & 5.5" Casing. Hope this helps.
