Generally speaking rain itself wouldn’t damage a rig, but having it set up and operating during a thunderstorm would definitely be problematic. It’s also that rain will damage or soften access roads and this will result in the rig being stuck or supplies being cut off. Areas like the Barkley tableland may get days of rain if a tropical low or ex tropical cyclone crosses over. My older sister did a stint up at Ranger and she was there when the pit flooded and they had over 1m of rain in three days.

This is why the wet season isn’t the typical drilling season, but you could drill during it with an eye on the weather. Luckily it is a fair way inland so it’s not in a very active region.
