I always wondered, if gold was so valuable (especially going forward), why companies did not keep/store some gold on the balance sheet. Obvious answers are costs of storage/security as well as markets desire for FCF and the options that brings.

Instead of processing and storing gold in vaults, why not simply store it in the ground. Would SLR take opportunistic 11.2%+ of RED and ~19% stakes in PNR and SPN. SLR would have less inflationary impact on hoards of cash, ongoing investment in price appreciation of gold, options for future consolidation and get right up the nose of Finlayson. If the banter about SLR and Genesis merging has any traction, this would drive it forwards. AIMO.
