Also interesting to read about the Formic Acid mechanism to transport Hydrogen. The H2 from FA has about 3 times the calorific output per volume than petrol. It is relatively non-flammable and non-toxic so easy to ship. When used in a fuel cell it releases CO2 and water so the CO2 would presumably need to be captured at the point of use. Ideally this is reused in the Formic Acid production process as @chin4 highlighted the other day but I have no idea how that would work if we were producing FA to be used in hydrogen Fuel Cells in Japan - can't see the CO2 being shipped back. The Hydrogen is released from the FA using a Ruthenium catalyst. Not much Ruthenium in Australia though you can buy small quantities on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/185177663508?hash=item2b1d72e814:g:54wAAOSw0z5hkW0T
Looking forward to better understanding all this.
