    you could also be with a broker long term. in the case of a retail investor, if you just approach them prior to an IPO you want you will have close to 0 success in getting in, you'd need to do business with them first and have a decent porrfolio to get good allocations in high demand IPOs.

    For SDR i was a BTI holder and we got invited to the priority offer. Similar story with PPK and their LIS IPO, though even then, you can expect huge scale backs for a good IPO.
