Interesting departure and a neat synergy. IFN will only need Smithfield for own-purpose firming 2-8% of the time. I bet this gas plant gets used more than that as Smithfield can bid into the NEM itself.
The gas plant is an ideal compliment to the Lake Bonney battery. I expect IFN to install a big battery at Capital/Woodlawn/Bodangora if the regulator changes the rules around the integration of generators and batteries.
The option to upgrade Smithfield to CCGT is cheap and irresistible. Next autumn when electricity prices are low.
