Mineral Resources can be defined as the concentration of material of economic interest in or on the earth's crust, whereas Ore Reserves are the parts of a Mineral Resource that can at present be economically mined
So this is what Stanmore is buying...They are paying $1.2B for 171 M Tonnes of ore reserve and 2,245 M Tonnes of mineral reserve. Dont forget they also get the port rights and I am assuming any rail and water rights as well.
Therefore they are paying $7.02USD/tonne for the ore reserve (i.e. that can at present be economically mined) and $0.53USD/tonne for all the coal that is theoretically on the leases.
Great buy for Stanmore.
