SMS completes POD Testing of the 737 APB program with Boeing

Structural Monitoring Systems Plc (“SMS” or “the Company” ) (ASX: SMN) is pleased to provide an update on the recent POD testing conducted by the Company at its Kelowna facility in British Columbia, Canada.

The POD testing for the Boeing 737 Aft Pressure Bulkhead (APB) application commenced in September, as referred to in our previous announcement of 8 September, and was conducted over a period of approximately 20 business days at Anodyne Electrics Manufacturing Corporation's (“AEM” )newly established Kelowna facility.

This critical APB application, developed in conjunction with Delta Airlines, has strong market potential for the Company with the expectation that it will translate into commercial sales in the short to mid-term.

SMS Chief Technical Officer Mr Trevor Lynch-Staunton P. Eng commented:

“The engineering team in Kelowna is proud to announce that the POD testing for the Boeing 737 APB application is now complete with successful results.
The sensors and instrumentation were flawless throughout the performance and environmental testing with preliminary statistical analysis conducted by SMS Senior Technical Fellow Dr. Dennis Roach indicating that we have 25% margin over the required POD.
“This data will be provided to Boeing for further analysis,” Mr Lynch-Staunton said.
“These results, through temperature, humidity and altitude testing demonstrate the vast improvements made in design and manufacturing of the sensors and equipment over the years, marking another significant milestone for SMS.”

Mr Lynch-Staunton said the next steps in the approval process, a number of which are already partially complete, include the documentation of in field data collection from Delta to Boeing, due to be completed by mid-November and crack closure engineering tests to be performed at the Boeing laboratories next month.
This will then be followed by the completion of a Reliability Report, a Compliance Data Summary Report and Boeing Service bulletin revision and issuance early in 2023 towards targeted Federal Aviation Administration approval between March and May 2023.

SMS Executive Chairman Mr Ross Love commented:
“This is a significant achievement for both the Company and the engineering team on the ground at Kelowna and we thank them for their commitment to getting the testing done in a reduced time frame and at the level expected.

“The initial results provided by Trevor are very pleasing for the Company, the Board and Management and the team responsible for ensuring every aspect of the testing was rigorously implemented and executed.

“We look forward to providing you with further positive updates once the relevant data has been reviewed by Boeing and we are able to provide further clarity on the path ahead,” Mr Love said.
