As an alternative, if the study is correct, it exceeds Stanwells current configuration in every single respect - not encroaching on a state forest, less environmental impact and public consultation, the list goes on.

On paper it all looks promising but you don't know what the political scene is like. Either way Stanwell corporation would have to give some concrete reasons as to why this isn't viable and I'm sure they would be pressured by the ministerial to save money and decrease carbon emissions. The only sweetener I can see from the option is to have some kind of bolt on technology that reduces the amount of carbon emitted from the coal in the tenements and some environmental rehabilitation in the current operating mine.

I was a bit cynical at first but on reflection it's about as much as one company or group of people could have accomplished given the circumstances.
