You can call gas anything you want, Old Mate [though 'filthy' is a bit strong]. But if you want your Grandchildren to be able do their homework in the evening by electric light and not by smoky tallow candles then you're just going to have to put up with it for the next 15 years or so until other means of coping with The Duck Curve can be brought on line.
