Far more likely is that 12.5 million shares just got written down to zero, and those short sellers collected, rather than the other way around, but sure, maybe they did an off market transfer for 1c per share. Sure as shit wasn't $1.07 per share. All you know for sure is that they are no longer short, and have been returned to the lender, but keep on believing that someone has lost money.
