SparcHydrogen is celebrating a milestone in the development of its next-generationgreen hydrogen technology, with construction commencing on a new pilot plant inSouth Australia.
    .

The photocatalyticwater splitting (PWS) pilot plant – located at the University ofAdelaide’s Roseworthy Campus – will employ a photocatalyst material to producegreen hydrogen directly from water using solar energy, without electrolysers.
    .

SparcHydrogen has engaged an engineering, procurement and construction management(EPCM) contractor to manage the construction activities, with plantcommissioning expected in mid-2025.
    .

Themilestone demonstrates strong progress towards the development ofnext-generation green hydrogen production by the Sparc Hydrogen joint venturepartners, Sparc Technologies, Fortescue Limited and the University ofAdelaide.
    .

SparcHydrogen announced the granting of the first patent for its exclusivelylicensed PWS reactor technology in January 2025.
    .

NickO’Loughlin, Sparc Managing Director, said it’s very rewarding to seeprogress being made both at Roseworthy and in the factory towards delivering aglobally leading facility for green hydrogen production via PWS.
    .

“Inan environment where major challenges exist for hydrogen projects due to thehigh cost of power, the requirement for new solutions to unlock low-cost greenhydrogen without relying on electrolysers has never been higher.”
    .

SparcHydrogen believes that the Roseworthy pilot plant will represent a globallyleading facility for R&D and commercialisation of PWS, reinforcing thecompany’s first mover position in this emerging direct solar to hydrogentechnology.
    .

Developmentof the pilot plant has been progressed materially during Q1 2025, with thefollowing key milestones achieved:

    · > EPCMcontract executed with global engineering and commercial service provider,Incitias

    · > Planningconsent received from the Light Regional Council allowing construction tocommence

    · > Manufacturingof the linear Fresnel (LFR) concentrated solar system is complete with deliveryto site expected during April 2025

    · >Manufacturingof Sparc Hydrogen’s pilot scale PWS reactors has commenced. These reactors willtie into the off-the-shelf LFR field

    · >Leaseagreement term sheet between Sparc Hydrogen and the University of Adelaideexecuted

    · > Mobilisationof civil contractors and commencement of site works
    .

    · Afirst patent for Sparc Hydrogen’s exclusively licensed PWS reactor technologywas granted in January 2025, with 17 other jurisdiction-based reviews inprogress.

Basedon the current construction schedule provided by Incitias, pilot plantcommissioning is expected in mid 2025.

Whenbuilt, the pilot plant will allow Sparc Hydrogen to independently andconcurrently test different reactor designs and photocatalyst materials.
