I did check up on Shinichi Matsumoto who is (the) professor at Kyoto University Hospital, and has I think done over 100 human islet cell transplants. He seems to be a consultant or works with several companies in the sphere, and is a very eminent expert on the subject, as well as being chief medical advisor for Otsuka. That puts him in a role more like professor Faull for LCT. He also co-authored the published paper in 2014 on the porcine islet cell transplants with professor Elliott based on the DOL trial, and that was referred to in his talk. I think the presentation simply used some aspects of the DOL trial amongst other things to illustrate background material in preparation for todays talk, and it was probably a bit misleading to refer to it as a "clinical update" for investors in LCT.

But I am really curious to know if the pigs they are using in the US have been genetically modified, and if so, in what way.
