No such thing Petunia as stupid question.Important to consider with the large amount of money currently turning to WPL, imo.
From my reading and understanding, with a fully franked divi, you want to use the franking credits as a tax offset so there is a 45 day holding rule but only if your franking credits total more than $5000 in financial year.

For a small time investor you can sell on 7/5, imo, but it will depend on SP activity leading up to ex-dividend date and on the date as to whether this will still work in your favour, imo.
Thats why the SP activity is important after the ann. of the special dividend. So far it is working favourably for all smaller time investors with postive SP activity.
Always best to get the advice of your accountant in such matters.
I would also like to hear the opinions of others more experienced with dividends, SP activity leading up to ex-div dates, holding rules etc.
I would think that as long as it holds above within 63c of your purchase price you will be in front. IMO with the larger money coming in since the day of the ann. of special divvi they would have holding rules applied hence benefitting the smaller time investor to exit before that time elapses, imo, if that is your strategy?
It is certainly a very unique situation and the coy has tried, imo, to avoid people purchasing for just special div by sweetening with an increased dividend payout ratio for several years. How the investment community takes this is still to be fully realised, imo, but certainly so far it seems they don't give a toss about growth in present times.
Lets hope SP appreciation continues up to the first ex div date but would certainly like some more opinions on the coys ST focus and possible SP activity in the coming weeks?
