I only stumbled on this SPT announcement today and while I think it's unlikely to be related, would like to point you towards the most recent quarterly from FTC. FTC is a chinese company that listed on the ASX almost 10 years ago. They're not pretty to look at but in the last 2 years have gathered momentum. They work with Unionpay and 1000+ other chinese banks providing fintech services to 6M+ merchants in china. In the last quarterly, out of the blue, they suddenly spent a big chunk of their cash on research in BNPL. FTC have never mentioned it previously.
Seems coincidental that SPT partners with Unionpay International at the same time as one of Unionpay's domestic partners is investing in BNPL capabilities. I expect the work FTC are doing would be to enable a 3rd party to use the Unionpay domestic banking system and I now wonder if that 3rd party will be SPT?
