There are other means of assessing spodumene content. You do realise that it forms as large crystals in pegmatite and has a characteristic crystal form? Spodumene will fluoresce under UV light. There are handheld spectrometers that can provide Li % concentration at the small scale.
You must understand that if there are no, or only skinny, pegmatites, then the assays aren't even relevant. It is not like gold exploration at all.
