Hypothetically, if that were the case and they had IG's blessing to do so, then it could be the reason DW left – he didn't want to be involved in such unethical behaviour. At the AGM, management refused to answer my question about why they had waited so long to raise capital, and just look at the decrease in short positions since the CR. They were absolutely gifted a chance to cover. So, there's certainly some circumstantial evidence that makes this a plausible scenario – it's a shame there's no transparency wrt who is holding large short positions, because that would prove or disprove this theory.
