Newton Investment Fund purchases 3.98 per cent stake in Meridian Energy

Newton Investment Management, a London based global investment management
subsidiary of the Bank Of New York Mellon Corporation, today announced it had
purchased 102,014,447 instalment receipts in Meridian Energy Limited via an
NZX disclosure.
It was incorrectly interpreted and reported that the total holding equated to
an 8.1 per cent stake in the company. The actual figure is 3.98 per cent in
the company based on the total shares on issue of 2,563 million. The NZX has
been notified of this clarification.
Meridian's Chief Executive Mark Binns welcomed the news that Newton had
purchased further instalment reciepts since the 'book build' process.
"I'm delighted that a fund manager of Newton's status is demonstrating
confidence in Meridian through this investment," said Mr Binns.
