Of course you can sell. You just have to declare the profit in your tax return. And not zero profit, you get taxed at your marginal rate on the full 100% of profit, so if you invest $1000 and sell for $2000 you will be taxed on the $1000 profit. That could be 32.5% or 37% depending on how much you earn. Like Moe said, get tax advice.
