Great post. It is not a surprise that all the apps above Cash App are social media apps. When Square was originally designing the Cash App they looked at how social media platforms expanded virally and tried to mimic it. They did this by incorporating "peer to peer payments". If you have the Cash App and if you want to send money to a family member or friend you ask them to download the app. Once they download it they then may want their family and friends to download it so as they can exchange money as well. It can expand exponentially and at a very low CAC. A brilliant strategy.
Being the 5th most downloaded app in the US is evidence that their strategy is working and that they are winning. Paypal and Cash App are the 2 big boys in the US. Paypal is bigger but the Cash App is growing faster. There will be only one or two winners in the race to dominate peer to peer payments in the US. Once you dominate you can slowly over time eat the lunch of the banks .Go Block .
