Mali has been fighting an insurrection against jihadists for some years in the north and east and had a military coup about a year ago. They kicked out the French forces and brought in Wagner mercenaries, aka Russian. Ghana is well away from this trouble spot and has been one of the more stable nations in West Africa for a long time.
