The labor government MUST continue to support the local manufacturing heartland because it knows that any more redundancies paid by the Aussie taxpayer will go down like a lead balloon when it come election time. Imagine what would happen if the labor gov't announced the end of steelmaking in Aussie. There would be an absolute outcry from the union brigade and labor would be turfed out of office. Steelmaking is on life-line only because of the likes of Coombe and Shorten and all the other union cohorts in gov't. Don't forget the union ideology is to increase jobs to increase union membership, they can't afford not to support the heartland. It's politics, not what's best for our country!
