I was lucky enough to come from a family that was big on investing so I've been at it for quite a while.. I made plenty out of big names in the 1990's using margin lending, back then there were so few rules about how much you could borrow. Having a margin loan on CBA, CSL, COH, etc worked out very well, I also made a fair bit on Westfield, Leighton etc then switched to Property just after the whole tech wreck thing and made better money through leverage (0% deposit was a laugh on things that went up!) again only to come back to the stock market in 2009 or so and load up the margin loan one last time.. currently have no debt and a portfolio that allows me to have some fun punts on things and a couple of interesting microchip investments but generally speaking I just stick to the big names that pay dividends. You can also use those big companies as underlying security in a structured position with warrants or options etc. Far easier to make consistent money moving a big chunk for small gains than hoping an NC6 etc goes 100 fold.

My stake in NC6 is pretty much $0, about 16,000 shares in total. If things look better later on I might tip in a much larger amount but I think its a bit over priced just right now.
